Excerpt:
Plenty of times she caught him watching her with a brief flicker of heat in his eyes before he glanced away. Several weeks ago, shortly after her breakup and after too many gin tonics, she commented on how they’d managed to escape the trappings of a one night stand. He gave her one of his sexiest smiles, said they were different types, brushed a kiss across her forehead, and said ‘Goodnight, gorgeous.’
Trevis stared at her.
Shilo shook off her daydreams. “Funnier than anything I can think of.”
He cocked his head to one side. “I’m sensing something more from you. What’s up?”
She shot him a sidelong glance. “I don’t know. I’m wondering how effective we’ll be with next to no prep and having to remember disguises. The whole idea is a little out there.”
No way would she be able to concentrate on work with him constantly strutting around and in disguise to boot.
Trevis smiled, teeth gleaming. “We’ll be fine. We’ve been on worse assignments.”
“It’s not so much the assignment.” She hesitated. “Did you know we have to share a suite? I don’t know about you, but I’m not okay with that.”
She ignored the hurt look he put on for her benefit.
“Oh, we’re getting to the crux of the matter. I don’t see a problem.” He ended tongue-in-cheek.
“No problem?” She almost choked. “Will you be able to keep your hands off and penis out of all other women? If not, we’ll be found out in a hurry.”
“Don’t worry your pretty little head. Not going to happen.”
“Yeah, right.” She kept her tone light knowing he wasn’t as much of a playboy as he let on. She could count how many dates he’d had in the last six months; the fact she’d kept track, disturbing.
“I’ll behave. Promise.” His gaze held hers for a moment longer than usual.
A burning heat fired Shilo’s core before she shifted her attention away from the six-two temptation in front of her.
“We’ll be pretending to be a couple. Will you be able to play the part in public and contain yourself in private?”
It wouldn’t be easy to go away, pretend to be wrapped up in each other, and return home and go back to the way things were.
“How long have we known each other? Have we ever been a problem?” He didn’t take his eyes off her. “Who else on the staff could pull this off with you? I can’t think of anyone. Besides, I will not take advantage of you.”
“So, I have your promise?” She realized the real problem−wishing he would take advantage.
Dreams of Trevis were beginning to drive her crazy.
“You do.” He stood straighter, reinforcing his words and smiled “Unless you want me to.”
